A fantastic weekend of golf came to a close at the Carrick Davins Golf Classic, with great competition and a brilliant atmosphere throughout.

There was something extra special about this year’s winning team, with lifelong Davins man Michael Hassett playing his part in taking first prize.
Michael was a key member of the great Carrick Davins side of the 1960s, a team that brought county titles back to the club and went on to achieve Munster success. That group set standards that are still spoken about to this day.
In his own words, Michael described himself as an average hurler on a team of greats. Those who know the history of the club will tell you different. To hold your place on a team of that calibre speaks for itself. Michael was a top class hurler and played his part in one of the most successful eras the club has ever known.
Away from hurling, Michael has built a reputation as a fine golfer with many prizes to his name. But what stood out on the day was what the win meant.
After receiving his prize, Michael spoke passionately about Carrick Davins, reflecting on the pride he has always had in the club. There was a real sense of connection between past and present, and it was clear to all in attendance how much it meant to him to win representing his own club.
